Florian Okwu is an artist and designer exploring sculptural form through the creation of carefully crafted objects. Each sculpture presents him an opportunity to access and pull from an internal language: A shape-vocabulary of decisions, material understandings and tenets born from his lived understandings and experiences. This personal pool of accumulated tastes fuels the evolving imaginative ecosystem in which his own inner-mythologies are born.
Florian combines modern and traditional carving techniques to create abstract works partial to the ancient tombs of future civilizations, testaments to the timeless universality of form and body. His belief is that a successful piece is one which has found balance: A series of compromises and agreements made between maker and object which allow the work to breathe, and to find its own soul.
Florian is also the owner of okflo (Studio), a sculptural and furniture design studio specializing in the creation of experimental hand-made creatures and landscapes.
